Cross-country racing dominates the weekend’s activities with the South East Schools Inter-county championships at Brands Hatch taking pride of place and it is expected that there will be Sussex representation at the BUCS championships.
Wisely many of the top athletes from last month’s Sussex Schools championships will be giving the Inter-county match a miss as there are several top level cross-country events for young athletes in the coming weeks and the top four finishers in each of the six championships gain automatic selection to represent Sussex Schools in the English Schools Championships at Norwich in March.
Between now and then the final Sussex League races, plus the National and the National non –school championships are still to be held.
The battles at Brands Heath should iron out any queries that the Sussex Schools selectors may have about four more runners in each group who will be joining the pre selective athletes to travel to Norwich.
BUCS
There are expected to be Sussex runners in the BUCS Cross-country championships at Sheffield on Saturday but it is unlikely any will be challenging for medals.
Pole Vault
Most of the top Sussex pole vaulters are expected to be in action at the Indoor “Vault London” competition which is being held Carlshalton on Sunday.
