Track & Field

There are many opportunities to take part in Track and Field via the numerous clubs affiliated to Sussex AA and at the County Championships, which cater for athletes aged 9 to 90+.

Track and field athletics includes a range of events built on the skills of running, jumping, and throwing. On the track, this ranges from sprints to long-distance. There are races on the flat, and events over hurdles and steeplechase barriers, as well as race walking and relays. Sussex AA welcomes disabled athletes and offers opportunities throughout the season for wheelchair racers.

On the field you can take part in competitions in the jumps events; the long jump, triple jump, high jump and pole vault, there are also throwing events; hammer, shot, javelin, discus and, in disability events, the club throw.

April to early September is when the main outdoor track and field competition season is held, but some competition takes place at other times, with the indoor season across the winter months.

If you can’t decide which event is for you combined events competitions such as the heptathlon and decathlon see athletes compete to win points at a range of events.

See the side bar for information about leagues and championships in which Sussex athletes participate.
