Sussex Schools trials round two

20 June, 2021 By Melanie Anning

For the second week in a row, many of Sussex's top school-age athletes descended on K2 to compete in trials to achieve English Schools qualifiers and selection.

In the Senior boys, 100m, fleet-footed Timi Esan (Ardingly) and Ethan Muirhead (Worthing College) were first and second in 10.8s and 11.0 respectively. Junior girl Elodie Bradley (Blatch) won her 100m race in a swift 12.64s.

Archie Sloan (BHASVIC) ran a PB  of 49.49s to take the 400m race just ahead of James McCulloch (Ardingly) who clocked 49.68s.

Senior, Millie Dickinson (BHASVIC) was a comfortable winner of the 800m in 2:17.06 and Inter boy, Miles Waterworth, (Brighton College) was the only sub two-minute finisher over 800m, running 1:58.84.

Junior boy, Elliot Hanslow (Thomas Bennett) continued his fine form this summer with an 11.66s PB over the 80m hurdles. Inter girl Noa Maoundus (Hazelwick) clocked 11.82s over the same distance.

In a high-quality pole vault competition, Cameron Wells (Sackville) vaulted a PB of 4.10m to take the win over Dillan Tierney (Collyers) and William Snashall (BHASVIC).

Cleo Tomlinson (The Weald) secured the Senior girls Long Jump win, with a 5.43m leap from Ella Macara (Worthing College) 5.17m. In the Junior girls competition Madeleine Way (Tanbridge House) leapt out to a 5.15m PB.

There were some solid results across all age groups in the women's discus with Senior Maya Solly (Bishop Luffa) throwing  37.11m; Inters' Hayley Emerson (Millais) and Emma Kimber (Tanbridge House) achieving 28.20m and 26.91m and JG Rebecca Roberts (St Oscar Romero) throwing 26.82m.

In the javelin, Senior Peanut Meekings (Burgess Hill) launched her spear out to 37.92m.  Inter Rachael Wall (Brighton Girls) threw 38.73m, Junior boy Louis Opoku (King's) 37.92m  and Junior girls Dulcie Yelling (Varndean), and Eloise White (Brighton College) 36.19m and 35.88m.
