The Sussex Schools junior Boy’s team were brilliant in the South East Schools Combined Events championships at Kingsmeadow over the weekend.

With a series of fine performances Adam Lindo and Spike Gleave filled the first two places in the Pentathlon and with Seb Wallace and Tom Ridley placing eighth and ninth the Sussex team trounced Hampshire by nearly three hundred points for victory.

In the Junior (U15) pentathlon Lindo, who has carried all before his this season clocked 13.0s in the 80m hurdles and putt the shot 10.32m before leaping 6.14s, high jumping 1.71s and clocking 2:22.62s for the 800 metres to amass 2668 points to just hold off team mate Spike Gleave (12.4s -10.22m – 5.50, - 1.71m and 2:18.57s) who was just 25 points adrift with 2643 points.

Seb Wallace totalled 2406 points for his eighth place only just clear of Tom Ridley, who was returning from injury, who scored 2395 point.

With an overall total of 7717 points they finished well clear of Hampshire who scored 7427 points and gained an automatic place in the England Schools Final in September.

In the junior girl's pentathlon, where Sussex lost one of their quartet, they put up a good fight but were squeezed into fourth team place with 7747 points.

Ruby Jerges finished 11th with 2670 points, Cleo Tomlinson 14th with 2565 and Isabelle Humphrey’s 16th with 2512.

In the senior Girls Heptathlon April Hanslow had an excellent two days of competition to finish fifth overall with 3422 points and gained a place in the Schools Finals in September as did Matt Smith in the Senior Boys Decathlon despite finishing ninth with 4889 points despite having three no throws in the discus event.
