Anning makes the Commonwealth – The Weekend

30 June, 2017 By Sussex AA

Amber Anning has been selected to represent England in the Commonwealth Youth Games in the Bahamas later next month, but not in for the 400 metres.

Anning, who had to withdraw from the final of the National U20 400 metres because of a twinge two weeks back, lost her number one spot and almost assured place in the team to Liverpool’s Emma Alderson but has been selected for the 200 metres and the 4 x 400 metres relay.

This week she has been at the 15th Jean Humbert Memorial ISF World Schools Athletics Championships at Nancy, France where she won the select 400 metres on Monday in 54.23s to go back to the top of the British U17 rankings and this also takes her to number five on the UK All-Time under 17 lists.

Anning also came second in the select Triple jump with 11.48m. She took only one jump as she has not trained for Triple Jump in over a year because of lower back problems last season. She was also part of the record breaking medley relay team who set a Schools' world record. She ran the 300m leg of a relay which had 100m, 200m, 300m and 400m legs.

British Masters:

Competing at Birmingham in the British Masters at the weekend Steyning walkers Ian Richards and Ron Penfold both won gold medals with Richards winning the M65 3K on Saturday in 14-59.02
