There were victories for Crawley, Brighton & Hove, and Chichester in last weekend’s Youth Development League matches.
Competing in the Lower (U15-U13 age groups) Crawley, in Division One South west, had a comfortable victory over Guildford, the home club, scoring 618.5 points to 550.5 with Horsham Blue Star filling third team spot with 476 points.
In Division One East at Lewes Brighton & Hove had a much closer battle with Medway before running out winners with 558 points to 549.5 and Basildon 514.5 with Lewes in fourth place on 446 points.
Chichester were in action at Woking in Division Two South west totalling 540 points to second placed Walton’s 470.
In Division Two South east at Erith Hastings placed third behind Bexley 642 and Newham EB 640.5 with 423.5 points while Worthing were fourth with 385 and East Grinstead fifth with 339 points.
This Sunday it is the turn of the Upper Age group (U20-U17) to hold their final matches of the season with Crawley competing in Premier One at Allianz Park.
Brighton & Hove are at Withdean in Division One B where Chichester are amongst the visitors while in Division One C at Croydon Horsham Blue Star and Team Sussex (Eastbourne, East Grinstead, Haywards Heath and Lewes) will be competing.
The South of England Combined events championships are being held at Oxford and will probably attract several Sussex athletes.
On the international scene Amber Anning (Brighton & Hove) will be competing in the final of the 400 metres in the Commonwealth Youth Games in the Bahamas after qualifying on Thursday evening, while her club mate Cameron Fillery, having survived his heat of the 110m hurdles will be competing in the Semi-final of the European Junior championships at Grosseto in Italy on Friday.
Orla Brothers (Crawley) will be competing in the 400m hurdles and Brighton Phoenix’s Toby Harries, 200m and Archie Davis, 1500m will be competing over the next few days.
