There were mixed fortunes in the third round of the Lower Age Groups in the Youth Development Southern Area League on Sunday.
In Premier Two Crawley, who lost their previous match because the home club failed to book the track, had a nail-biting match and actually finished up in sixth team place having won the season’s opening match back in April.
Crawley however had some fine results in the U13 age group with Abigail Packham recording a fine hurdles/high jump double with 11.93s and 1.40m having only tried high jumping at training the previous week.
In North East three Brighton & Hove finished in fourth team spot at Basildon where Hannah Brockbank recorded a fine throwing double reaching out to 33.62m in the U15 discus throw and 35.28m in the hammer competition. Both throws were well over English Schools standards.
Thomas Eames was also in “standard” form romping to victory in the U15 800m in 2:03.9s.
At Broadbridge Heath in South West Two the Horsham Blue Star team had an excellent result finishing second to Walton with Chichester in sixth spot.
There was another cracking U13 performance here when Ella Hannyington clocked a new League record for the 70m hurdles in 11.2s.
In North East three B at Gillingham four Sussex teams were in action with Hastings finishing third with 522 points, Lewes fourth with 445, Worthing fifth and East Grinstead 6th.
Among the fine performances here were doubles by East Grinstead’s Emmie Van Lieshout in the U15 sprints with 12.9 and 27.5s,a hammer/discus double in the same age group by Worthing’s Ben Hawkes with 47.21 and 36.51m and an unusual pole vault/javelin double for Bill Saunders with 3.40m and 35.38m.
Hastings looks like they may have found another promising middle distance in Amalie Primdal who took the U13 800m in 2:31.4s.
