We are hoping that come Sunday both Lee Emanuel from Hastings and Charlie Grice will be lining up for their respectively finals at the World Indoor Championships at Portland Oregon.
National 3,000m Indoor champion Emanuel, who won the silver medal in the European 3,000m championships last year, will race in his heat on Friday at 9.00 our time and, if successful will race in the final at a similar time on Sunday.
Grice also a National Indoor Champion, who made the final of the World Outdoor 1500m championship last summer also tackles his heat on Friday but not until 3.00am our time on Saturday morning and hopefully will line up for the final at 10.05pm on Sunday.
South of England 12 stage
The uncertainty about the South of England 12-stage relay this year has meant that Sunday’s championship at Gravesend will be sans Sussex clubs.
The race, which has been held for the past decade at Milton Keynes around the first weekend of April has had to change venue and it has taken a little time to find a venue, which would not have been a great problem, but the change of date has meant that neither Brighton & Hove, who have not missed the championships since the race was switched from Wimbledon about fifteen years ago, and Brighton Phoenix are unable to get representative teams.
Several of the leading Brighton & Hove runners have entered the Eastleigh 10km a couple head to Hastings while the leading Phoenix athletes have also made other plans.
The Tough but popular Hastings Half-marathon is also on Sunday, starting at 10.30am and will feature several leading Sussex runners.
Also on Sunday is the Pre Season Open track and field meeting at Crawley which starts at 10.30.
