Over the next few weeks I will be posting, at least weekly I hope, items about athletics in Sussex since 1900 and maybe a little earlier. I hope to have some contributions from others within Sussex who have a knowledge of Sussex athletics over the last fifty years.
Some will be historical or maybe quirky and to this end I would be interested to hear from any clubs in Sussex with contributions but primarily of interest to Sussex rather than club interest.
Please send suggestions to reghook@ntlworld.com.
Kate is hoping coaches/athletes will contact her and she would be pleased to hear from them on Kate Matthews matthews2000@live.co.uk with tips to pass on to other coaches/athletes.
My father John, who was the Foundation Secretary of the County Association, was Secretary of the Brighton & County Harriers when I was born in 1934 and I took an interest from an early age. My early research has revealed that I was well aware of the leading Sussex athletes as athletics in Sussex developed. Indeed I actually knew many of them in their later and my younger years.
