The final matches of the Lower Age group of the Youth Development League the saw mixed results for Sussex teams with Chichester in West Two winning their match after a successful season that will probably see them promoted to Division One West next season.
At Woking they scored 536 points to the home clubs 514 points with Horsham Blue Star in third place scoring 485 points.
Star performer at this match was the talented Cleo Tomlinson who notched up three wins in the U13 age group winning the long jump with 4.91m, the high jump with 1.45m and the “B” 70-metres hurdles in 12.1s after Horsham team mate Ruby Jerges had taken the “A” race in 11.8sec.
There could be another promotion for Lewes in Two East although they were squeezed into fifth team place at Hastings.
Medway won the match with 532 points with Hastings on 469, Worthing 461, East Grinstead 417 and Lewes on 396 points. Lewes had been well clear in second place behind Medway after match three and they look likely to hang on to that position to take them up to Division One next season.
One of the best performances at this match was the jumps double by Kelsey Sutherland from Worthing who cleared 1 50m in the U15G high jump and a fine 5.07m in the long jump.
In the Division one matches Crawley placed second to Guildford at Walton scoring 588.5 points to the winner’s 610.5 points with Joe Smith, who has had such a fine middle distance clocking a fine 2:02.7s. to take the U15 800 metres.
At Chelmsford Brighton & Hove who had set the pace for most of the season were squeezed into third team spot behind Basildon on 665.5, the home team on 628 and a rather depleted Brighton & Hove team on 540. This enabled Chelmsford to take the league title on match points as they and Brighton & Hove both scored 25 league points.
However only one team from the Division one matches go through for a three way promotion battle to Premier Two.
Making sure that big sister Amber does not get all the headlines Ruby Anning ran a sparkling U13 sprint double clocking10.5s for the 75m and 20.2s. for the 150m.
