It was a tough time for both the Crawley and Brighton & Hove teams in the British Athletics League matches at Bedford on Saturday when all five matches were held on the same day and at the same venue.
In Division two the Crawley club were again involved in a nail-biting match where just 68 points covered all eight clubs with Crawley eventually finishing in third place behind Herne Hill, 311.5 points, Kingstone & Poly 294, Crawley 278 and Bristol & West 268.
Currently, with one match to go Crawley are currently lying fourth on the League table.
George Turner placed second in the pole vault, which was the highest “A” placing by a Crawley athlete on Saturday though Leigh Walker did win the “B” vault with a clearance of 4.20m. Both were good vaults as the event had to be stopped for half-an-hour because of heavy rain.
Rhys Turner, a bronze medallist at the recent English Schools championships, also achieved a second placing when clocking 27.76s in the 200 metres after having placed fifth in the 100 metres in 10.96s.
All-rounder Richard Reeks popped up in several events including finishing second in the 110m hurdles in 15.64s and the high jump where he leapt 1.90m.
The matches eventually finished 1½ hours late and the loss of the shot putt cards meant that the team results are not yet to hand.
Brighton & Hove, in Division 4, fielded only a skeleton team, finished last and now sit at the bottom of the League table with Reading with one match to go.
They did however notch up a couple of winners with Harry Baker (Horsham) again soaring over 2.00m to win the high jump with Harry Reinecker-Found winning the “B” event by clearing 1.92m.

Ben Hawkes from Worthing continued his unbeaten record with the U17 hammer this year in Dublin at the weekend.
Hawkes (Sion) was the only Sussex athlete to make the English Schools team this year and he was a convincing winner of the hammer throw reaching out to 63.86m.
