Sussex athletes scooped up a hat trick of gold medals in the South of England Senior/U20 Indoor championships at Lee Valley over the weekend.
Following her fine second place in the National indoor Pentathlon championship the previous weekend Hasting’s Elise Lovell dominated the senior long jump leaping to a clear victory with a fine leap of 5.87m.
The other gold medals came in the U20 age group with Brighton & Hove’s Cameron Fillery showing excellent form in the 60m hurdles to win in 7.92s which is the second fastest time in his age group in Europe so far this season and was faster than the winner of the senior race.
George Turner (Crawley) added to his English Schools senior pole vault title from last July with a fine clearance of 4.30m while Callum O’Neil from Horsham cleared 3.95m to take second place.
There was another silver medal in the pole vault when Crawley’s Natasha Purchas cleared 3.40m in the U20 women’s event while another Crawley athlete Lillie Franks cleared 1.69m for another U20 silver medal in the high jump.
In the same age group Josh Eeles (Brighton Phoenix) just missed a medal in the 800 metres in 1:57.92s and Georgina Coleshill (Brighton & Hove) also took fourth place in the triple jump with 9.69m.
Back with the seniors Matt Hewitt (Brighton & Hove) placed fifth in the 60m hurdles in 8.40i after running much faster in his heat and there were sixth places for Crawley athletes Holly Turner who clocked 56.43s in the 400m and Noel Butler who leapt 6.40m in the long jump.
