The weekend

8 September, 2017 By Sussex AA

There is still plenty of athletics activity this weekend with the Sussex Combined events and the Southern U20 and U15 Inter-county championships at Horspath, Oxford.

The Sussex Combined events championships, which are being held in conjunction with the Surrey Championships at Sutton, will be held on both Saturday and Sunday.

Entries look quite good in the U13 and U15 age groups but this end of the season date almost ensures the older age groups attract only a handful of entries, though the senior women’s entries appear to be up on recent years.

Because of the World Championships in London in August  the Inter-County matches are much later than normal and this has had made it difficult for All Counties to get full teams, particularly in the U20 group.

Many athletes, particularly in the middle distance events, are either resting or looking towards the forthcoming cross-country season and Sussex will not be fielding complete U20 teams.

The U15s however are looking quite strong with several athletes eager to fill in any last minute drop outs.

Road races of course are never ending and this weekend the “Hellingly 10km”, which is part of the Sussex Grand Prix, is the major race. Organised by Hailsham Harriers the time of the start has been changed and it now 9.30.
