The Sussex Junior (U15) boys’ team won the England Schools team championship at Boston on Saturday with Adam Lindo (Downlands) just missing winning an individual medal but was selected for the International match.
After a tremendous battle with Essex the Sussex quartet took the title with a total of 8276 points to 8224 with Somerset in third place with 7752.
Although Sussex had won several team titles at these championships in recent years this if the first time they have won the Junior Boys title.
Lindo, who won the English Schools long jump title in July, and has had a tremendous season placed fourth with a personal best total of 2906 points to third placed Jami Schlueter’s (Somerset) 2943 points and second placed Humber athlete Archie Yeo who totalled 2964 points while the title was won comfortably by Joseph Harding (Essex) with 3258 points.
Lindo clocked 12.29s for the 80m hurdles, putt the shot 12.29m, long jumped 6.26m, high jumped 1.71m and clocked 2:17.73s for the 800 m and all but the long and high jumps were personal best performances.
Spike Gleave (Eastbourne Coll) finished an excellent seventh with a Pb of 2777 points achieving 12.35s, 10.35m, 5.65m, 1.74m and 2:15.75s with Pbs in all but the hurdles.
Tom Ridley (St. Andrews) placed a brilliant 13th with a Pb of 2593 points (12.84s, 9.95m,4.80m, 1.83m, and 2:16.60s) while Seb Wallace (Forest) finished 17th with a best of 2549 points (11.63s, 9.99m, 5.96, 1.59, 2:34.62) with Pbs in the hurdles and shot.
In the Race walking championships that were held in conjunction there were sixth places for Lewes walkers Lauren Morse, in the Junior girls 3000m in 19:41.58s and Eva Payton-White in the Intermediate (U17) 3,000m in 17:58.34s.
There were high hopes of fellow Lewes walker, Oliver Hopkins in the senior boys 5,000m event but unfortunately he was disqualified when challenging for a medal.
