The County Sportshall team had their best overall results for several years at the South East Regional Sportshall Finals at Burgess Hill on Sunday. Both the U15 Girls and the U13 boys placed third, the latter missing silver by just one point, whilst the U15 boys and U13 girls came fourth.
For the U13 boys there were wins for Sam Illsey (Worthing) in the Standing Long Jump (2.28m) and for Tom Page (Horsham) in the 6-Lap race, a second place for Cellan Robinson (Chichester) in the 4-Lap race. Brighton and Hove athlete Alex Dyball was second in the shot with 9.75m whilst his clubmate Finn Halloren scored 86 for third in the Speed Bounce. Kaujarunuamo Marshall (Crawley) won the U13 Girls 4-Lap Race and Katie Bristow (Crawley) was third in the 2-Lap race just ahead of Emily Dore (Worthing).
In the U15 Girls competition 47 girls were competing in three events in the individual All-Rounder event. Amber Anning (Brighton & Hove) finished third overall after winning the 4-Lap race, coming second in the Vertical Jump with 67cms and placing seventh in the shot put. Mia Frost (Horsham) and Georgia Coleshill (Brighton & Hove) who are the joint county record holders for Speed Bounce were the other U15 Girl winners on the day. They shared a three way tie for first place in Speed Bounce with a score of 86.
The highest placing in the U15 boys competition was fourth for both Jordan Levey (Horsham) in the 2-Lap race and Jamie Osborne (East Grinstead) in the Standing Long Jump (2.42m). In the All-Rounder competition Jordan, in twelfth, was the leading Sussex boy.
Team Manager Kim Milnthorpe commented, "I was really impressed with the results. They are the best for a number of years, especially the U15's which bodes well for the "All-Rounders" in the future."
The annual event at the Triangle in Burgess Hill brought together seven counties from across the region. Thanks to Kim and to all the Sussex officials who ensured the event ran smoothly.
