Sussex teams head to the Inter-counties

8 December, 2017 By Sussex AA

The leading Sussex cross-country athletes face their first major test of the season when they travel to Horspath, Oxford for the South of England Inter-county championships on Saturday.

All age groups will be involved except the Under 20 and Senior men but the South of England Masters Championships will also be held at Horspath and it is expected several Sussex Athletes will  be competing in those events.

Last year Bethany Cook and the U13 girls’ team gave Sussex a good start when Cook won the individual title and the team finished fourth but the best team result of the day had come from the senior women who finished second to Surrey.

Last year's U13s have moved into the U15 age group so their race will be much tougher and it will be interesting to see how Cook fares against the older athletes.

The senior women's team will be without Emma Dixon, who led the team home last year, but County Champion Nicole Taylor with be in action as will Sussex League champion Izzy Coomber and Johanna Spannagl, who is currently leading this year’s League competition.

Among the boys/men’s teams the U17s could well be worth watching, particularly if Tom Eames, who missed last weekend’s League race because of a cold, is back to form and he will be ably supported by George Pool, Joe Smith and Will Broom.
