In a tough and hard fought match at Cardiff the Crawley British League team did well to finish fourth in their Division two match.
Although the individual results and final points are unreliable the positions are likely to be confirmed. They currently stand at 378 points for the home team and 332 for near neighbours Swansea with Kingston & Poly on 292 and Crawley with 284. Kent are on 231 followed by Bedford, Bristol and Notts.
Newcomer to the Crawley team George Turner soared over 4.20m to share the winning height in the pole vault and although he was originally given third place after intervention from team manager Tim Kimber the results card was rechecked and he was promoted to first, the only “A” winner for the Crawley team.
Matt Lasis finished second in the hammer throw with a fine effort of 59.32m and won the “B” discus throw with 42.01, while young brother James won the “B” hammer throw with 53.60m and was third in the “A” discus throw with 53.60m.
Another newcomer, Sam Heawood, picked up a third place in the shot putt with 14.23m and this placing was matched by Billy White on the track in the 3,000m steeplechase where he removed three seconds from his PB with a fine clocking of 9:40.41s.
Getting relevant results from Cardiff may well have been difficult but as far as the Brighton & Hove Club’s debut in Division four, as we go to press I am unable to access any results.
It is thought the Brighton & Hove also finished fourth in the team event, which if confirmed was a pretty good effort from a weakened squad.
