A full team of sixty athletes has been selected to compete in the England Schools Championships at Gateshead next month with nearly one third of the athletes having achieved a National, instead of just an Entry Standard.
They may be reserves called up to serve if any of the selected athletes gain selection for the World Junior Games when that team is announced next week.
At the moment six National standards have been gained by members of the nine strong Senior Boys group but it is from this group that we may lose athletes to the World championships.
Last year Sussex had their best results for fifty years winning four gold medals and three of those athletes - Livvy Connor, Joe Fuggle and Amber Anning - will be competing again this year.
The senior Boys probably look the strongest although with fourteen athletes the Intermediate girls are the largest of the groups.

Southern Athletics League
There were good results from the Sussex teams in last Saturday’s Southern Athletics League matches with both Horsham Blue Star in Division Three SW and Eastbourne Rovers in Three SE winning their matches.
Worthing & District finished third behind Horsham at Broadbridge Heath and the combined Lewes/Haywards Heath team shared second place with St. Mary’s Richmond at Eastbourne.
In Division One at Oxford Crawley finished in third team position behind Radley and Milton Keynes while in Division 2 West at Portsmouth Brighton & Hove were second behind the home club.
At Eltham in Division 3SE Hasting were second behind Cambridge Harriers and East Grinstead were fourth and in the same division but at Guildford Chichester were also fourth.
