Sussex runners got short shrift in the Chichester Priory 10k road race on Sunday as out of Sussex runners filled the first five places in the men’s race.
The women fared somewhat better as Emma Macready from Worthing took a clear second place in 34:42 behind Swansea’s Elinor Kirk, who clocked 33:57 and ahead of Nicola Rogers (Colchester) who was timed at 35:47.
Macready’s club mate, Rebecca Moore, did well to finish in fifth place in 36:09.
It was Tony Lambert from Winchester who romped away the Men’s title just missing the thirty minute barrier by three seconds and more than half-a-minute clear of Paolo Natali and Tonbridge’s Ben Cole who were in involved in a neck and neck finish for the minor placings in 30:38 with the Tonbridge runner having to be satisfied with the bronze medal.
Kevin Rojas (Brighton & Hove) led the rather sparse line up of leading Sussex performers finishing in sixth place in 30:43 while training companion Neil Boniface (Horsham Joggers), who has had an excellent winter in road races was not far behind clocking 30.54 for tenth place.
Matt Bradford (Lewes) finished 19th in 31:37 and Max Dumbrell (Brighton & Hove), back after injury, was 20th in 31:50.
