Sussex Cross-country League

13 October, 2021 By Reg Hook

Numbers are looking strong for this Saturday's First Cross Country League Fixture at Goodwood.

Due to Covid, it has been eighteen months since the last cross country races were possible and it is hoped that we will go back to attracting big fields of competitors. More than 450 had already entered in advance before the day.

The senior fields, at this event in 2019 at Goodwood saw 142 men complete the course and 130 women. More than five hundred runners finished all the races a couple of months later.

On Saturday the first race will be races for U11s starting at 12.00. The actual league races will begin with the U13 races at 12.30 and will be completed at 2.30 when the Senior/ U20 and Masters men’s races will start on their way.

Before the women’s race at 2.05 there will be a one minute silence in memory of much-loved Sussex middle distance champion Fiona Clarke, who recently passed away. Fiona, who competed for Crawley AC, Arena 80 and Sussex, was always a regular competitor across the cross country league races.

For the first time, athletes were able to enter before the day, but it is still possible to enter on the day if you missed the deadline. For race times and more information go to https://www.sussexathletics.net/take-part/events-information/
