Several Sussex athletes have battled through to today’s finals of the BUCS Indoor championships at Sheffield and some going through with winning performances.
Brighton & Hove’s Ian Crowe-Wright controlled his 1500m heat to win in 3:53.01s while Sam Heawood (Crawley/Brunel) was first in his qualifying round of the shot putt as was Brighton University’s Joe Watson putting 15.82m and 6.81m respectively.
Both Elise Lovell and Anna Short have reached the final of the long jump with Lovell (Hastings/Brighton), who had finished fifth in her semi-final of the 60m hurdles in 8.60s leaping 5.78m and Short from Lancing, who false started in her semi-final of the 60m flat after clocking a pb of 7.70s in her heat, leaping 5.71m for Leeds in third and fourth places respectively overall.
Two Sussex vaulters are through to today’s final of the pole vault with both Jade Brewster (Horsham/Southampton) and Livvy Connor (Lewes/Birmingham) both clearing 3.40m while Chloe Billingham (Horsham/Cambridge) just missed the cut clearing 3.30m.
Holly Turner (Crawley/Brighton) won her heat of the 400m and is through to the semi-final of the 400m.
In the high jump Kate Garland (Brighton & Hove/Loughborough) should see herself in to-day’s high jump final following her 1.66m clearance in qualifying.
