Southern Inter-Counties Preview

9 December, 2016 By Sussex AA

The Sussex team face their first major of the Cross country season at Horspath, Oxford on Saturday when they contest the South of England Inter-county cross country championship.

With the exception of the senior and under 20 men all age groups will be on show but unfortunately Sussex will go into the senior women’s race minus their top two performers Grace Baker from Hastings and Emma Macready from Worthing who were the first two to finish in the County Championship earlier in the year.

They will however be headed by Izzy Coomber who has had such a fine season in the Sussex League Races this season and will be crowned County League championship in February and steeplechaser Nicole Taylor who has had several excellent runs in Sussex teams in recent years.

They will also have Caroline Hoyte who made such an impressive return to competition at Stanmer Park last weekend.

Ethan Scott from East Grinstead, who has been undefeated in Sussex League lives in Surrey, so will not be available for Sussex in the U13 age group.

In the U13 Girls events Bethany Cook and Rebecca Losh are expected to head up the Sussex runners. Unfortunately Joe Smith, who would have spearheaded the Sussex U15 squad, is injured.

The South of England Masters Championships are also being held at Horspath and several Sussex runners are expected to be in action in this event.
