Sixth in Southern from Brighton – – – UPDATE

27 September, 2016 By Sussex AA

Brighton & Hove chalked up one of the best Sussex results for many years in the South of England 6-stage Road Relay championships at the Bedford Autodrome on Sunday when they matched their sixth placing of last year.

The event’s move from Aldershot to Bedford this year was difficult for more southerly teams a late announcement advising of a forty mile diversion on the M1 would have involved leaving the South Coast before 6.00am.

The senior men did not start until 2.30 so their journey was much more manageable.

Brighton team manager Howard Bristow ran a fine opening leg placing 13th in 17:59 but a below par run by Stephen Ferroni,  potentially as fast as Bristow dropped three places on the second leg in 18:56.

Will Gray, currently back home from his America University, put thing right on the third lap making up seventh places to hand over in tenth in 17:56s to Ian Crowe-Wright who had his first run back from injury  held tenth spot in 19:08 while James Turner made up two place on the penultimate leg in 18:53 and Dimos Evangelidis gained further places on the final leg in 18:30s to bring the team home to total 111: 25s just five minutes down on race winners Aldershot but ahead of several major Southern Clubs.

These are, as far as I can see, are the only results that have been published and they are provisional.

The Crawley Club got some Young Athletes team to the venue and it is believed that their U15 Boys team ran exceptionally well to finish in fifth place but this has to be confirmed.

------------------

Confirmation is now through that the Crawley U 15 Boys’ team had a great result to place fifth with Joe Smith, who recently set a new Sussex 3000m record of 8:55.8s, ran the second fastest lap in 8:37s.

Both their U13 Boys and U17 men’s teams finished in 16th place.
