Six Records tumbled at Relays

5 April, 2017 By Sussex AA

Full results from Saturday’s highly successful Sussex Road Relays are now posted on the results pages.

Six records tumbled during the afternoon and what is believed to be a record number of 172 teams completed the eleven races.

The Lewes Athletic Club Boys U13 team broke Phoenix’s fourteen year old mark of 18:28 with 18:17 and in the U13 Girls record also tumbled as Bodyworks took a chunk off the Hastings Club’s 19:48 of 2015 with 19:21.

The rest of the records all came in the Masters' races with Arena 80 breaking their own year old W40 aggregate record of 38:06 with a fine clocking of 36:43 while Julie Briggs, who had anchored the Arena 80 team broke Sharon Elder’s (Worthing) 2012 lap record of 12:00 by two seconds.

There was also a double record in the M60 races where Brighton & Hove improved their own five year old total time of 37:59 by just three seconds and John Lowden (Brighton & Hove) clocking 11:55 was just one second faster than club mate Peter Witcomb’s 2012 time for a new lap record.

Twenty four records are listed and the Lewes youngsters became only the sixth non-Brighton based record holders.
