Once again the weather was glorious as Sussex's leading under 13 and under 15 athletes competed in their second Youth Development League fixtures across the south-east of England.
Brighton & Hove AC was the only team to retain the top spot in the East 1 fixture, which was again hosted by Lewes AC. Brighton dominated the event winning by 156 points from second placed Lewes, with a score of 618.
Under 13 Dulcie Yelling again tipped the javelin over the 30 metre mark with a throw of 30.01m, whilst Mollie Barrett ran a 4:05.5 1200m.
In the West 1 fixture at Horsham the hosts were beaten into third place with a score of 497 behind Guildford and Godalming’s 523 and the winners - Team Dorset’s - 545. Chichester Runners were sixth with 333.5.
On her home track under 15 Cleo Tomlinson won the 100m in 12.7 and the Long Jump with 5.24m.
Worthing & District Harriers travelled to Winchester for the West 2 match. They were sixth with 252 behind winners Bournemouth AC and New Forest Juniors who scored 580.5 ahead of second placed Aldershot, Farnham and District’s 549.0.
Hastings and East Grinstead were in London at Walthamstow for their East 2 fixture. Woodford Green with Essex Ladies held onto their match lead scoring 610 points, 45 ahead of Orion Harriers. East Grinstead and Hastings were fifth and sixth respectively with 324 and 226.5.
Under 13 County Minithon champion Grace McCullough (EGR) threw a shot PB of 8.91m for an emphatic win.
In the Premier 2 division, Crawley travelled to Tooting Bec to the host club Herne Hill Harriers. The first fixture, in which Crawley came fourth, had been very closely fought and this one was no different. Here they gained two positions coming second with 494.5, and just beating the hosts into third place by 3.5 points. Croydon Harriers won this match with a final score of 514.5.Despite their second place Crawley are still fourth overall.
Under 15 Alessio Anah came second in the 80m Hurdles, with a personal best of 11.8s. Stand out under 13’s were Charlotte Wormley who improved her 1200m time to 3:49.4, which takes her to the top of the UK U13 rankings, and Electra Mykoniatis who ran 11.5s for second in the 70m Hurdles for the number three spot in the UK.
