There will be a new look to the Sussex Road Relay championships at Christ’s Hospital on Saturday as the race will be run clockwise, rather than the normal anti clockwise.
Athletes will be expected to keep to the right side of the course so they will actually run exactly the same distance so existing course records will probably stand. The changes have been implemented for Health and Safety reason as a short part of the course is run on the public highway.
The first race, the U13 Girls, will start off the racing at 11.00.
Charlie Grice, who twelve months back was racing in this event and setting the day’s fastest lap in the senior race, will be thousands of miles away at the Gold Coast and ready to run in the Commonwealth Games 1500 metres event next week.
I suspect he will be pretty disappointed if he does not improve on his seventh place when the Games were held in Glasgow in 2014.
There was disappointment for Phoenix club mate Almi Nerurkar in Paris where she was representing the English Schools team in the World Schools International. Because of an injury Nerurkar was pulled from the 3000 metre race.
