Nine Wins For Sussex At Senior Inter Counties

19 July, 2019 By Kate Matthews

There were 9 wins and a few PBs for Sussex at the Senior Inter Counties match in Ashford last weekend.

Worthing’s Jimmy Seacombe clocked a PB of 21.64s in the men’s A string 200m while Bryn Smith took the top placing in the B string.

Dominance was displayed in the 400m races with Matt Overall (Crawley) winning the men’s A string 400m in a time of 48.69s and Holly turner 1st in the women’s in 55.02s.

Sam Wilkinson (B&H) ran a very committed third quarter of the 800m to score a good PB of 1.57.96s with Rhian Male (Lewes) surviving a fast first lap in the women’s 800m to dismantle her PB with 2:21s.

It was competitive and tactical 5000m race for Hastings AC’s Gary Foster who took the top spot in a PB of 15:09. Similarly, in the women’s 3000m Maisie Trafford (Arena 80) and Emma Navesey (Haywards Heath) both ran PB’s finishing first in both the A string and B string.

Brighton and Hove’s Rafe Brooks won the Long Jump (6.47m) and in the Javelin Scott Staples (Crawley) won the A string with 60.14m and Edan Cole (B&H) finished first in the B string with 58.74m  - a throw that would also have won the A string if not for his Sussex team mate.  All three of these athletes are still Under 20.

Sussex were 5th overall.
