New Opportunity for Under 15 Girls

26 November, 2017 By Sussex AA

Another door has opened for Under 15 girls with the introduction of a 300 metres race for this age group at the English Schools championships at Birmingham from next July.

This automatically triggers its introduction into the Sussex Schools championships which will be held at the K2 Stadium, Crawley next year on the 9th June.

Normally when new events are introduced at English Schools the first year is a soft target qualification and the standards have been set at 41.0 seconds for the National Standard and 42 seconds dead for the Entry standard. Just one Sussex athlete would have achieved the entry standard last season and that was Crawley’s talented all-rounder Poppy Oliver, who clocked 41.75.

The first draft of the Sussex Rankings for last season will be posted next week and the next best performances are Eastbourne’s Molly Swingler who clocked 42.28s and Eloise Longhurst (Worthing) 42.49. Unfortunately neither of these athletes will be young enough to compete as Under 15's next season.

The leading eligible athletes from last season are Erin Bracknell (Crawley) who clocked 43.2s and Tracey Linus (Lewes) with 43.4s.
