Records continued to tumble in the Sussex Under 15 League match at Broadbridge Heath on Friday when the final West Division match of the season was held.
For the third time this season the girls 800m League record came crashing down but this time it was a determined, run-a-way victory, rather than a real battle that did the damage.
Erin Bracknell (Crawley) who was runner up in both the County and the Sussex Schools 800m championships earlier in the season set out at a fast pace from the start and gradually drew further and further away from her rivals all the way to the finish.
Bracknell improved her own PB and, for the third time this season, the league record, which had been set by Chloe Kornevall (Lewes) at 2:21.3s by more than one second with 2:20.0s., the fastest time by any Sussex U15 girl this season, and was also a full ten seconds clear of the second runner to cross the line.
This event will certainly be much anticipated in the League Final at Withdean on 1st September.
In the Boys 1500m Chichester’s Liam Dunne employed similar tactics to improve his own month old record with a fine run of 4:15.2s.
Crawley’s Abigail Packham was was again in record breaking form, winning her main event the 75m hurdles in a swift 11.2s. This was just one of a hat-trick of victories as she also jumped 1.58m to win the High Jump and achieved a PB of 12.8s in a wind assisted 100m. Abigail has had a sparkling season and last week jumped 1.65m in the High Jump at the YDL in Guildford which takes her to number six in the UK rankings.
Crawley continues to dominate this League and with 273.5 points they finished well clear of Horsham Blue Star 212 East Grinstead 178.5, Worthing 138, Chichester 80 and Haywards Heath’s 55 points.
