Following last weekend plethora of Indoor Championships there are even more National Championships this weekend with the ECCA Cross Country championships at Parliament Hill Fields on Saturday and the England Athletics ”Age Group” Indoor championships at Sheffield on both Saturday and Sunday.
Parliament Hill is always a tough course and it is not known how many Sussex clubs will be sending teams to the championships though Brighton & Hove are hoping to get a senior team there although several of the leading senior Sussex athletes will not be competing.
Among the young athletes both Bethany Cook (Bodyworks) and Brighton Phoenix’s Almi Nerurkar won a gold and silver medal respectively at the South of England Championships in Stanmer Park and we hope will be amongst the medals again in the U15 and U17 events.
At Sheffield there will be hopes of a further medal for Brighton & Hove’s Amber Anning in the U20 400 metres following her third place in the senior championships at Birmingham last weekend while there are several other youngsters who could gain places in the various finals.
On Sunday the Brighton Half-marathon will be held from Madeira Drive.
