Medal Winning Performances At Age Group Indoor Champs

26 February, 2025 By Kate Matthews

Two golds, two silvers, a bronze and some fantastic results topped off the England Indoor Age Group (U15/U17/U20) Championships for Sussex.

The county had several athletes competing at the event in Sheffield earlier this month.

The county had 21 pole vaulters competing in the competition and from these won two golds and a silver.

Ava Hayes (U17W) and Bill Scott (U15B) both put in a spectacular performance to win gold for Lewes AC. Milo Hilborne took silver in the U15B event for Crawley AC.

It was silver for Rae Le Fay (Hastings) in the u20W 1500m in 4.42.17 and bronze for Brighton & Hove’s Jaiten Best in the u17W triple jump (11.76).

Also performing well across the weekend was Klara Novak- Wightman (Brighton & Hove) who was 4th in the u15G triple jump (10.54), Chichester’s Reuben Shewan 4th in the u15B 300m (40.57) and Samuel Stapley (Phoenix) 4th in the u20M 1500m.

Three other Lewes athletes also placed 4th, all in the pole vault. Sylvie Ward (u15G) with 2.78 and u15B Luca Mindel 3.21, and u20W Imogen Clarke 3.30.

Pole vault is definitely strong in the county. Lewes AC is keen for more athletes from around Sussex to give pole vaulting a go. The club runs taster sessions for 11 to 13-year-olds throughout the year. If interested, email david.tutton@icloud.com to find out more.
