It is the turn of the “Masters” get down and dirty this weekend when the Sussex Masters Cross-country championships are held at Coome Farm, Lancing which is likely to be pretty muddy.
More than 250 runners are entered for the events that cater for the more mature athletes and although last year’s main winner, M40s, Howard Bristow (Brighton & Hove) is entered he missed both the South of Thames Senior, before Christmas, and the Sussex County Championships at the beginning of the year through injury and there must be some doubt that he will face the starter.
In his absence Matt Bradford from Lewes looks to be the best of the bunch.
Caroline Hoyte (Arena 80) a W45 runner won the overall women's race last year but does not appear to be entered for this year’s race and Emma Macready (Worthing) W35, who finished fifth in the County event as Emma Footman, is likely to finish well clear of the rest of the women, if she races.
All the races will be run over 5-miles and the first race will be at 1.00
