Competing at Tallin in the European U20 Championships the two Sussex athletes finished seventh in their qualifying groups, with Brighton's Liz Korczak securing a place in the final the following day.
Gemma Tutton, from Lewes, who is still in the U17 age group, had her first taste of major international competition and did well to clear 3.90m. Her seventh place finish, left Tutton just outside of the top 12 across two qualifying pools, so she did not progress to the final.
In the javelin, Korczak, also making her debut in this standard of competition, was seventh in qualifying, with a throw of 48.37m, and this took her through to the final on Sunday where she finished eleventh with a throw of 48.08m, which was a great result.
