Local Races at Risk – HELP NEEDED URGENTLY

The county needs more officials otherwise races will be under threat. In Sussex we have a great selection of endurance events:

• Road: 5k, 10k, 10m, half and full marathons

• Cross country

• Multi-terrain

• XC and Road Relays.

These fixtures can only take place with help from our loyal officials who turn out regularly to support you. However, without more of you getting involved we will not be able to run these events. This has become a matter of urgency as our pool of volunteers is aging and the numbers of officials in Sussex is dwindling. To secure the future of athletics in Sussex we need your help.

So what do officials do?

• They ensure a well-organised race and fair competition

• Officials help to produce accurate and timely results

• They ensure runners’ safety.

Sussex AA needs YOU to get involved and we want to hear from you.

The type of duties you might be asked to do include:

• Pre-race registration

• Assisting at start and finish

• Course marshalling

• Time or finish order recording.

Sussex Athletics will organise courses so you can learn more about Endurance officiating and provide opportunities for you to gain experience.

You can help your club or choose to be involved with the County, the decision is yours. To find out more contact the County Administrator Kate Matthews by EMAIL  or ask your Club Secretary to do so.

If you have any queries or want more information regarding this post, please Email Kate Matthews
