It is with deep regret we have to report the sudden death of former Worthing long jumper Liam Treadwell.
Treadwell who trained as a steeplechase jockey at Amanda Perrett’s Arundel Stables, leapt to fame, when he won the Grand National on the 100/1 Mon Mome in 2009.
BBC commentator Clare Balding pulled his leg when he smiled and later apologised but no offence was taken and his victory enable him to have some dental work done, for which he was grateful.
He had a bad fall at Bangor in 2016 and was knocked unconscious but he returned to racing in 2018 although he retired a year later.
He had returned to racing but was suffering with depression. He was aged just 34 and his death, according to the police was unexplained.
We send our sincere sympathies to his family.
