Lewes Women set Record in South Downs 100

6 June, 2016 By Sussex AA

Competing in the 100 mile South Downs Relay from Eastbourne to Winchester the Lewes AC women’s team were not only the winning team but broke the previous course record set in 2007 by the team of Hailsham Harriers. Finishing in a time of 11hours 52mins and 09 seconds for the 100 mile course this was not only a record and winning time but smashed the previous best time for a women’s team by over 30mins.

This remarkable win and time was set by a team of six running three legs each. With a support team in the mini-bus driving hard to get to the change over points in front of the runners the Lewes runners broke 15 of the 18 club leg records to set their record breaking time. This was a remarkable achievement as the previous club leg records were set by a strong Lewes AC women’s team that won the relay race in 2015.

The photograph shows the winning team with their medals taken at the presentation. From left to right Megan Taylor; Laura Barazzuol; Emma Robertson; Emma Rollings; Helen Sida and Izzy Coomber.

With two wins in the 100 mile relay the Lewes AC runners will be looking to complete a hat trick of wins in 2017..
