Chris Zablocki and Stephen Ferroni are believed to have broken the Goodwood course record for Sussex league events with their fine running in the first of this season’s Sussex Cross-country League events on Saturday.
Back in 2007 Olympian and International cross-country runner Gavin Thompson from Crawley clocked 24:12 while on Saturday Zablocki, running for Chichester clocked 24:00 and the seventeen year old Brighton & Hove Ferroni clocked 24:08.
Ferroni also led the Brighton & Hove team to victory in the senior race scoring 59 points to the Lewes club’s 113 and Haywards Heath’s 263 points.
Brighton & Hove also won the Veterans team event with 11 points with Lewes again in second place with 23 points and Crawley on 28 points.
Lewes came good in the senior women event when they totalled 47 points to Chichester’s 60 and Brighton & Hove’s 80.
Brighton Phoenix took the U17 team title with 20 points to Horsham Blue Star’s 29 and Hastings’s 30 while in the U15 events Chichester took the Boys race with 12 point to Brighton & Hove’s 25 and Lewes’s 31 with Hastings winning the Girls’ team event with 13 points to Chichester’s 20 and Haywards Heath’s 36.
In the U13 team events Hastings won the Boy’s event with 11 points to Crawley’s 26 and Brighton’s 27 and Phoenix took the Girl’s event with 19 points to Brighton & Hove’s 21 and Hastings’19.

Brighton & Hove 10 mile
North African athletes stole the major prizes at the inaugural “Brighton & Hove 10-mile” race on Sunday with Ben Siwa and Philip Koech filling the first two places in 47:04 and 47:13 some three minutes ahead of the third runner.
To be fair Chris Zablocki, Chichester’s American Doctor, had won the Sussex Cross-country League over the testing Goodwood course the day before clocked 50:49 in third place.
Ben Savill and David Bradford from Lewes were the first Sussex runners to finish placing sixth and seventh in 54:13 and 54:32.
Lemal Jerotich was the first woman to complete the course recording 55:58 while Arena 80’s Emily Proto was the first Sussex woman to finish clocking 59:36.
