This Saturday’s final Sussex Cross-country League match at Bexhill Down will be very important for several athletes. Not only will it decide the League winners for the 2019/20 season but it will also be the final opportunity for a handful of Sussex runners to catch the selector’s eyes for the English Schools championships. Most of the teams are virtually finalised but there a still a few places to confirm and the decision for those places will be made after Saturday.
In the past several athletes have already completed the three races to contest for the title of League Champion but this season just three have won each of their three races this season and cannot be beaten for the title.
Dulcie Yelling (Brighton & Hove) has won all three of her U13 girl races while the other two are at the other at the other end of the age groups in the Masters age groups.
W45 Julie Briggs (Arena 80) has won three races this season. Stewart Gregory (Portslade Hedge Hoppers) is in the same position in the M50 group.
In most events it depends on who turns up to run. In several age groups there are runners, who have completed two good runs this season but need to complete a third one to take the title.
The League events start with the U13 girl’s race at 12.30 though there are Under 11 races, which preview the League events at 12.00.
