It was Ladies Days at the Sussex Schools Championships with three record breaking performances.
Grace Tuesday beat a 41 year old junior girl record in the 800m clocking 2:12.56 – there cannot be many more Sussex records for the Lewes AC youngster to break this season.
Then there was Alice Howie, also a junior girl, adding 5 metres to the hammer record throwing 47.86m. Alice is currently ranked number one in the UK.
Pole vaulter Gemma Tutton was also in fine form improving the senior girls’ best by 30cm jumping 3.80m.
Running conditions were good for the athletes at the event, which was held at the K2, Crawley.
Some of the other stand out performances in the junior age category included Barney Hastings (JB) throwing a PB of 48.08m putting him 2nd in the UK, Ava James (JG) taking gold in the 1500m in 4:48.41, Stella Kalman (JG) with a PB of 5.13m in the long jump, Charlie Fisher winning the 100m and Ilya Korchev (JB) 1st in the 1500m.
Among the Inters were Rowan Pearson and Louis Goodwin in the 400m. Rowan, who is ranked 5th in the country, ran 51.39 and Louis 53.13, whilst Eloise White threw a PB performance of 40.96 in the javelin.
Senior Girl Eadie Yelling is becoming well know for her steeplechase this season, where she is ranked 6th in the UK, but it was the 1500m she competed in and won on Saturday. Fellow senior Freya Brennand was in good form winning the hammer with a throw of 44.77.
