Katie and Beth lead at Reading.

Katie Garland (Bexhill) and Beth Croker (Hurst) lead the way after the first day of the South East Schools Combined Events championships at Reading.

Competing in the Senior girls (U19) heptathlon Garland has clocked 15.1s for the 100 hurdles, leapt 1.66m in the high jump, putt the shot 8.94m and clocked 25.5s for the 200 metres has totalled 2,883 on this opening day while Crocker, with 15.6s, a PB of 1.69m, 9.91m and 26.7s is not that far behind with 2,817 points.

In the intermediate boys (U17) Matt Smith (Blatchington Mill) is lying seventh in the Octathlon having leapt 6.11m in the long jump, thrown the discus 28.56m, the javelin 38.40 and clocked 54.1s for the 400m.

In the Girls Inter heptathlon Katinka Morris (Willingdon) is in 11th place after the first four disciplines on 2275 points while Sisters Olivia and Sophie Dowle (Worth) are 20th and 25th with 2070 and 2568 points respectively.
