Competing in the first, and by far the faster semi-final, of the 1,500metre yesterday Fitzgibbon finished sixth in 3:45.54 when just over one second covered the first six finishers in this race and will race in the final of European Junior championships at Eskiltuna in Sweden on Saturday.
Club mate Spencer Thomas will line up for his heat of the 800 metres today while a few thousand miles away at Cali in Colombia another Phoenix athlete Tony Harries will competing in the 200m in the World Youth Games.
Back in Sweden Grace Baker from Hastings will have to wait until Saturday to race in the 5,000m event.
A little nearer home at Grangemouth in Scotland four Sussex School Athletes will be donning the England Schools vest in the annual Home Countries Schools International match for Intermediate (U17) athletes.
Joe Fuggle (Uplands) will compete in the 400m hurdles, Orla Brothers (Millais) the 300 metres, Calum Neil (Tanbridge House) in the pole vault and Archie Davis (Patcham) in the 1,500m.
On Saturday the accent is still with the youngsters at the final Youth Development, Lower Age Group League matches.
Crawley in Premier 2 will compete at West London, Brighton & Hove in North East 1 at Chelmsford and Horsham and Chichester in South West 2 at Portsmouth.
