Sussex athletes enjoyed success at the British and Irish Masters International Cross Country event at Singleton Park, Swansea on Saturday.
On a sunny, cool morning and on a testing, undulating course Haywards Heath Harriers James Skinner (M45) ran 8k in 26:25 winning his age category and individual Gold and helped the English M45 men win team Gold.
On the 6k course Caroline Wood W55 (Arena) ran 25:03, was 6th W55, third scorer for the English W55 ladies team and helped them secure team gold. Paul Whelpton M65 (Phoenix) ran 23:48 was 5th M65 and was in the gold medalling English M65 team. Finally Pauline Rich W70 (Run Worthing Academy) ran 34:03, was 10th W70 and was in the gold medalling English W70 team.
Mike Houston (M35 - Chichester) ran 26:52 in the 8k race - he was running for Scotland (his team didn't medal)
England won, overall, the men's and women’s team competition.
Enfield Open Road walk
On 10th November Sussex had 5 walkers out of a field of 41 in the 92nd Enfield Open 7 Miles at Lee Valley, the previous weekend. In 4th place was David Crane in 62-15, 9th was David Kemp in his first Open Walk, again improving in 70-51, 13th Paul Gaston 73-58, 14th Dan Maskell in 74-42 and 15th Ron Penfold M75 in 75-12. Steyning AC could only muster 3 walkers on the day so did not score in the now 4 a side mixed team race.
