The South of England Inter-counties Cross country championships at Biggleswade on Saturday will see Sussex teams in action in the each of the eight events, no U20 or Senior men races, and there are expected to be some Sussex clubs lining up for the South of England “Masters” championships which are being held in conjunction.
Last year at this event Sussex, in cold and frosty conditions, gained bronze team medals in U20 women and U13 boy’s events and, if they are at full strength, the U20 women’s team look probably the strongest, as far as Sussex is concerned this year but it is always difficult to judge strength in the age group race.
The seniors, spearheaded by Emma Macready, who missed last year’s race, and Nicole Taylor, who led the U20 team last year, should get Sussex off to a good start.
They will however be without Grace Baker who, come Sunday, will possibly be enjoying balmy weather on the French Riviera at Hyeres where she will be running for the Great Britain team in the junior event at the European Cross-country championships.
