Two Sussex hurdles record tumbled again at the Loughborough International meeting on Sunday with both Brighton & Hove’s Cameron Fillery and Crawley’s Orla Brothers nibbling away at records they had set in the past few weeks.
Fillery was in particularly good form when he finished seventh in a senior 110m hurdles over 3’ 6” hurdles in 14.23s which lifts him to third position on the Sussex All Time lists. He then lined up in his proper age group for the British Junior team and finished a splendid second in 13.69s over the 3’ 3” barriers to improve the County record he set earlier in the month.
In the 110m senior Hurdles Guest race County Champion Matt Hewitt finished third in 14.78s.
In the 400m hurdles Brothers finished a fine fourth in the Match race in 60.30s, another fine run to improve the Sussex U20 record she had set earlier in the month.
Sussex Hurdlers were well to the fore in the 400m hurdles with Seb Rodger taking second place behind Kent’s Jack Green in 49.78s to the winner’s 49.28s and he also anchored the winning England 4 x 400m relay team to victory..
In the same race Joe Fuggle from Wadhurst, who is still in the U20 age group finished seventh in 53.06s, only two one hundredths of a second outside a personal best.
In the 800m Spencer Thomas (Brighton Phoenix) finished a close second in 1:48.71s while club mate Finley Bigg won the “A” Guest race in 1:52.33s and in the Match 1500m Archie Davis from Phoenix took seventh place in 3:47.31s.
Recovering from back trouble Gwilym Cooper (Brighton & Hove) clocked 48.63s in the Guest 400m when placing fifth.
Elise Lovell from Hastings leapt 5.92m for ninth place in the long jump a clocked a windy13.78s for fourth place in the “A” 100m hurdles while Katie Garland (Brighton & Hove) clocked a legal Pb of 14.41s for fourth place in the “B” Hurdles.
Highgate 10ks:
Crawley’s Paul Navesey was the leading Sussex runner in Saturday’s 10,000 metre “Trials” at Parliament Hill.
Running in “Race C” Navesey had a running battle with Brighton & Hove veteran Howard Bristow throughout the twenty five laps before finishing fourth in 30:56.25s with Bristow placing sixth in 31:00.83s.
Bristow’s club mate James Turner won the “D” race in 31:53.49 while in the Women’s “A” race Nicole Taylor from Crowborough finished 19th in 34;46.25S.
