A brilliant run from Lee Emanuel from Hastings earned him the silver medal in the 3000m European Indoor Championships in Prague on Saturday afternoon.
Always in the mix it was the Sussex runner who took up the challenge when Ali Kaya from Turkey blazed away just after half distance and although could not manage to pull back Kaya he managed to draw clear from his rivals and hold them off his in the finishing straight to clock a new personal best time of 7:44.48s to the winner’s 7:38.41s to take the silver medal one second ahead of Norway’s Henrik Ingebritsen.
“I was disappointed when I finished” said Lee. “I was certainly looking for gold but looking back I should be pleased”. “Faster than I have ever run before and that’s not bad so I am pleased to get the medal”
Emanuel is thought to be probably the first Sussex athlete to win a medal at the European Indoor Championships and only three Sussex athletes have won medals at the Outdoor European event
