Tough and blustery conditions marked the first session of this year’s Sussex Endurance Squad.
More than 100 youngsters from clubs across Sussex gathered to train on the sands at Camber at the session which took place on Saturday.
The athletes had been primarily selected for the squad based on their success over last year’s cross-country season.

Lead coach for the day was Hastings’ Terry Skelton. With help from other coaches across Sussex, including Dave Leach (Lewes) and Vince Golding (Crawley) he split the squad into four groups. Each group then completed four 12-minute endurance sessions, which included running up and down the sand dunes as well as across the sand itself.

Once this concluded and after a short break, and luckily before the rain clouds gathered, the youngsters completed some strength and conditioning training.
This was the first of four days that the squad take part in. The next one is at Tilgate Park in November.
