Grice underlines British superiority.

A sparkling run at the Olympic Stadium on Saturday saw Charlie Grice (Brighton Phoenix) underline his current position as the top British 1500 metre/One mile runner.

Racing in a strong International field in the “Emsley Carr Mile” Grice, the reigning British Champion was, like British rivals Ross Murray and Chris O’Hare always in the main bunch and they were all in the frame as they entered the final 200 metres.

However no one could match the finishing power of the Kenyan Asbel Kiprop who held on to his title in 3:54.87s while Grice was squeezed into fourth place in 3:55.7s, Murray clocked 3:55.71s in ninth place and O’Hare, who so often gets the better of the Sussex runner in, tenth place in 3:56.35s.

Racing in the 3,000 metres steeplechase Rob Mullett, from Lewes, finished 12th in his fastest ever time of 8:31.32s. Although he is currently clearly the leading British runner it was still outside the World Championship standard.

On Friday Lee Emanuel from Hastings clocked his personal best outdoor time for the 3,000m flat when he finished 13 in 7:51.30s and this takes him into fourth place on the Sussex All time Lists.
