Charlie Grice Brighton Phoenix) took full advantage of his second chance in Rio to claim a place in the final of the 1500 metres.
In his heat Grice was bundled out of qualification but following a protest by the team manager he was re-instated and was determined not to throw away a “second chance”.
The semi-final was again a slowly run race with the field going through the 800 metres in 2:03 and again there was bunch of athletes desperately sprinting down the final straight.
This time however the former Cardinal Newman Schoolboy sprinted alongside the kerb and snatched fifth place in 3:40.05s to gain a place in Sunday morning’s, as far as we are concerned, final, a tremendous effort .
