Charlie Grice (Brighton Phoenix) is the only Sussex athlete to be included in the United Kingdom team for the World Championships at Beijing next month.
Grice, who is the British Champion and got the better of his British Rivals in the “Emsley Carr Mile” at the Olympic Stadium last weekend, is paired with his oft times Edinburgh rival Chris O’Hare.
Lee Emanuel from Hastings, who had actually achieved the 1500m standard indoors back in February and indeed won a medal in the European Indoor 3000 metres championships in the winter, has not transferred this indoor form to Outdoor events and misses a place in the team.
Youth Development League
Crawley had a great battle with the strong Reading and Tonbridge teams in the final fixture of the Upper Age Group in the UK Youth Development League on Sunday before being squeezed into third place.
This result sees the North Sussex team finish third in the final League table behind Tonbridge and Reading and they will spend another year in Premier two.
Sunday’s appalling weather forced the cancellation of one match and the results from the Brighton & Hove South West 1A match at Withdean was delayed but the home team eventually finished in fourth place with Team Sussex (East Grinstead, Haywards Heath and Lewes) in fifth team spot.
Horsham Blue Star finished second in their North East Two match at Dartford behind the home club Medway but the final League placings have not been confirmed.
The Chichester team did not make the journey to Ealing for their South West Two match.
Final League tables had not been published on 30th.
