Sussex clubs made a great start to the Youth Development Leagues on Saturday with Brighton & Hove, Crawley and Horsham Blue Star all winning their Lower Age Group matches.
At Ashford in a seven club Division One East match Brighton & Hove notched up an 83 point margin of victory over Chelmsford with 630.5 points with Orion, just a few points adrift in third place and the home team a further one hundred points away.
It was at Ashford that Henry Reinecker-Found notched up the best Sussex performance of the weekend when he soared over a splendid 1.80m to win the U15 high jump. This is an English Schools National Standard and the second best in the Country so far this season.
At Portsmouth in a six club Division 2 West match the Horsham club notched up a fifty point margin of victory over fellow Sussex team, Chichester with 536 points to 485 with Woking just a few points behind in third place. Here it was Cleo Tomlinson who starred with a fine U13 jumps double of 4.64m for the long jump, which would have topped the Sussex U13 rankings last year and1.50m for the high jump.
The other victory came a little further along the coast at Poole where Crawley was involved in an eight club West One match. After a very close match Crawley took a close victory over the home team, Team Dorset with 618.5 points to 599.5 while Aldershot took third spot with 551.5 and Guildford and Godalming 545 in third and fourth place.
Lauren Lethbridge won the U15 long with an Entry Standard of 5.18m, though she had jumped further indoors during the winter while Joe Smith was not far short of a standard in the U15 1,500m when winning in 4:25.8. Abigail Packham was also showing fine form in the U15 high jump clearing 1.53m and winning the 75mH in 12.1.
In the seven club E2 match at Gillingham the home team Medway romped away the match with 684 points but Sussex clubs filled the next four places with Lewes scoring 452 points, Hastings 414, Worthing 383 and East Grinstead 341.
